Our Story |
1) Tell us how you first met? Who, what, when, where, why? Give us the dirty details.
We met through mutual friends at Saint Louis University.
Emily: Luis was spending a semester at home in San Antonio and our mutual friends constantly spoke of Luis. His friend Tim even went so far as to name his cat “Little Luis Garcia”, at which point I knew I had to meet such an infamous person. When Luis came back to school for the Spring semester, I saw him in passing several times, but we never really spoke. That was until he tagged along with his friends to my 21st birthday party. After some celebrating, I proceeded to point at him from across the table just to tell him that I did not find his strong/silent type act intimidating in any way. I guess he thought I was more cute than obnoxious. :o) In the days to follow we started talking and soon after began dating. I knew very soon into our relationship that I wanted to spend my whole life with this amazing person.
Luis: At the time I met Emily, my plan was to move back home to San Antonio after graduation. Emily’s birthday was in March and graduation was only a couple of months away. The night my buddy Joe asked me come over and hang out for this random 21st birthday party, I hesitated but had nothing else going on. Going into the night, I knew who Emily was, but had never really interacted with her. If I am being honest, it was a little more obnoxious than cute that she was yelling at me from across the table. BUT, there was something about Emily that I could not shake for the night of and the days after we had met on her birthday. Not moving back to San Antonio after my graduation was the greatest decision I had ever made.

2) When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something he/she did?, etc.
Our first time spending time together was sort of impromptu. We stopped and got coffee as an excuse to extend the “date” we found ourselves on. Months later, I was already head over heels crazy about Luis. He asked me to go into his glove box to find his car manual and I found a sugar packet. It was a sugar packet from our first cup of coffee together. I knew that we’d be together for the long haul and that I’d feel blessed and lucky to be with him every single day.

3) Tell us about the proposal. (Did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning?, how did you feel? nervous, excited, freaking out?)
How we got engaged
Most importantly, I wanted Emily to be surprised. She would have figured out any sort of proposal dinner plans or hot air balloon rides by sheer telepathy. In the end, I surprised her not once, but twice. First was the proposal, where her guest bedroom was transformed from an extra closet into a walk down memory lane. I displayed all the sentimental items that we had tucked away in our “relationship box”. Second, I had our loved ones show up that evening for a surprise celebration. On a scale of one to ten, Emily cried a lot. :o)

4) Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.
Emily: I love that Luis is so deep and thoughtful. He is slow to judgment, quick to empathy, and always makes life’s milestones special by being sentimental.
Luis: I love that Emily has the biggest heart of anyone that I know and that through tough times she will always see the best side of people. She has pushed me to become the best version of myself, and for that I love her dearly.

5) Besides getting married – what’s the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?
We are most looking forward to having one incredible day (and party) surrounded by the people who love us. Also, we are both excited to get the wedding bands that we’ll wear forever!

//Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.
Kate: We met the summer before my sophomore year of college. My roommate Carrie and I made an overnight trip with our current boyfriends to move some things into our new apartment. She had met and become close with Chris and his friends the previous year and I was excited to finally meet these guys she had talked about so much. Chris and our friend Tom came over to our apartment to hang out and have some drinks. The night was really fun but filled with my current boyfriend and I debating about whose high school mascot would win in a fight. I remember Chris telling me that when they left our apartment on the drive home Tom said he could see him and me clashing in the future. Tom then asked Chris what he thought of me to which he replied “She is good-looking, but she is crazy.”
Chris: I believe it was my fourth year of college, which would have been her second year when we first met. Even though I went to school over in St. Louis I was always hanging out in Edwardsville since my closest friends went to school out there. We had met and been hanging out with one of Kate’s friends Carrie the previous school year when Carrie lived in the dorms there, but this year Carrie was getting a new roommate from back home in Springfield and moving into an apartment. The day they moved in, my friend Tom and I went over to their apartment later that night to check the place out and meet this new roommate. Needless to say, Kate was in a relationship at the time and I do not recall if I was or not. When we got there it was Carrie, her now fiancé, and Kate’s boyfriend….Kate was in the shower. So we all started having a few drinks and then finally she came out of the bathroom. After a few drinks it was very clear she was very opinionated much like Tom and myself, as she got into an a 15 minute argument with her current boyfriend over whose high school mascot would win in a fight. As Tom and I left, Tom stated he could see us all clashing heads in the future…which we all have! However, we all became very good friends, and when her relationship had ended she finally convinced me to give us a shot and the rest is history!

//When did you know he/she was the one?
Kate: I feel like I knew before we really even started dating. We were very good friends for a couple years before anything romantic even came about. Over those two years we both dated other people but consistently hung out multiple times a week with our large group of friends. He was the person I turned to for so much and I was grateful enough to convince him we were better off as more than friends!
Chris: I realized Kate was the one for me when I was going through a rough time in my life and with school and she was the only one I wanted to talk to.

//Tell us about the proposal.
Kate: The summer after we graduated college Chris asked me “Do you want a ring or do you want a house?” I picked house so I wasn’t anticipating the ring to come until sometime much later. We were two weeks away from closing on the house we had spent months building. Chris called me at work to let me know that they had completed the final clean on the house that day and he was going to pick me up when I got off work to go look at it. We arrived and for the first time it didn’t feel like just ‘a house’, it felt like ‘our home’. We walked around in awe as he kept saying “I love you”. I would respond with “I love you too!” to which he would say “Do you promise?” over and over and over again. This was kind of out of character for him and I was getting annoyed that he kept saying it over and over! We made our way up to the loft area that looks down on the family room of the house. He got down on one knee and I seriously thought he was kidding. He asked me to marry him but deliberately didn’t show me the ring until after I said yes!
Chris: Originally after graduation, I asked Kate if she wanted to get a house or a ring…because I did not have the money for both. She decided at that point she wanted to get a house together. After months of looking for a house we finally decided to build one. Through the building process we would go by the house on almost a daily basis to see what they had completed that day. About a month before our close date on the house, I went out and got a ring. Then on December 14, two weeks before we were moving in our house I asked her to meet me at the house after work, to take a look around since it was completely finished. When we got there we were both pretty much in shock that it was finished and this was going to be ours. Once we got upstairs to the loft and we were looking down, I got down on one knee and proposed to her. I was positive she would say yes, but I was still very nervous for some reason. I later joked that if she said no, plan B was to just toss her off the loft!

//Tell is the one thing you love most about each other.
Kate: To pick just one thing I love about Chris is extremely difficult. I love how supportive and caring he is. He always believes in me even in times I don’t always believe in myself. He really is my best friend.
Chris: What I love most about Kate is that she is my best friend and knows everything about me. She often even knows things about me that I don’t even know about myself.

//Besides getting married – what’s the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?
Kate: I’m looking forward to celebrating with the people that mean the most to us. Many of the people that will be there are people we don’t see often and I’m so excited to share such a special event with them!
Chris: Besides the wedding, I am looking forward to getting all of our family, friends, and family’s friends together all in one place and having a fun night with the people who mean the most to us in our lives.

//Tell us how you first met?
We met in the summer of 2008- I was working at Schnucks when Chris needed a job for the summer before he started the Police Academy. He caught my eye from the moment we laid eyes on each other. We played in a softball league for Schnucks and the rest was history. We then spent a lot of time together and falling more and more in love with each other as the days went by.
//When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something he/she did?, etc?
After the second softball game we went out for a couple drinks. When he drove me to my car we had kissed for the first time. It was the most amazing first kiss. We both had tingles throughout our whole body. I then asked him what nationality he was and he replied German and Irish. I said I was 50% Italian and German/Irish, I then continued to ask what our children would be. We both knew we were the one when I didn’t scare him off with such a question like that after our first kiss.
//Tell us about the proposal. (Did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning?, how did you feel? nervous, excited, freaking out?)
We went on a summer vacation to Rivera Maya, Mexico with my family in the middle of June. It was the first night there after dinner. I was a bit crabby due to the long day of travels. Chris asked me to go for a walk around the resort after dinner and I did not have any interest in going because it was raining. He finally talked me into it, so we went for a walk. We got down to the beach boardwalk when it stopped raining and the moon was reflecting off the ocean. It was so quiet, no one was around, and all we could hear was the sound of the waves hitting the shore. Chris stopped, took my hands and started expressing his unending love to me. Next thing you know Chris was down on one knee asking for my hand in marriage. I was shocked and nervous at the same time.
We then went to where all my family was and told them the terrific news. They were all so happy and cheering for us. It was such a magical evening. I could have not asked for a better engagement.
Chris was planning it for 3-4 months. He took his mom and sisters to look for a ring. Then took my sisters Lori and Kerri to help too.
//Tell is the one thing you love about each other.
Chris is my best friend and I have never been so thankful to have someone so incredible to spend the rest of my life with. He keeps me on my toes and surprises me all the time with new ways to share his love for me.
My life changed from the moment I met Kelli. Kelli is always making me laugh and can’t believe I survived this long without her. She has “sentenced” me to a life full of happiness and love.
//Share with us something silly or quirky the other person does.
Chris is always breaking out in a sing or dance just to make me smile. Kelli is happy and always positive, she makes me have a better day when I see her smile.
//Besides getting married – whats the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?
Having all the special people in both of lives being in one place celebrating with us our new life together. The whole day was dedicated to us- it was our day that we patiently waited for after a year and a half; It was neat to see all the planning and picking out everything come together for such a magical day.
