//Tell us how you first met? who what when where why? give us the dirty details.
“True love is worth waiting for even if it takes a lifetime. Then in return a lifetime of love will be waiting for you.”
Sometimes life goes just as expected, other times it throws you a curveball. Kristen and I were introduced to each other by a mutual friend. (Forever indebted to you, Kelly!!!). Though delayed a few weeks by life’s travails, we finally met for a drink on a Sunday night. Given our busy lives, we both admittedly were dreading the occasion. The thought of cancelling occurred to each of us.
For each of us the curiosity of meeting a new friend outweighed the boredom of a typical Sunday night in St. Louis. We were lured to Sasha’s winebar in South St. Louis city with the innocence and hope of any first date. Our first included a couple of glasses of good red wine (Benton Lane Pinot Noir and Educated Guess Cab, in case anyone wondered), good conversation and an otherwise empty restaurant. A lasting memory of the evening, besides her smile as she walked in the door (that’s right, I was early), was the awkward moment in the restaurant when the bartender’s girlfriend stole his cell phone and locked herself in the bathroom out of suspicion that he was talking to other girls.
The next couple of months we encountered new circles of friends, old skeletons, big smiles and good conversations. The first big challenge in this new relationship was approval from Kristen’s key confidant, her 3 year old Puggle, Chloe. We got off to a rough start with her yelping the first time we met. Through time, she warmed up to me and even brought out some jealousy from “Mom.” We continued to spend more time together and some great adventures ensued. There was the trip to Destin with Kristen’s family and all the inside jokes that we still laugh about today. Vegas in December brought home some great pictures, a new Yurman bracelet and a pounding three day headache. Perhaps the most lasting memories from our travels together were gained from our trip to San Francisco and Napa Valley. As with all of our trips, we ate too much! We fell in love with the landscape, the food, the wine and each other.
Along the way, we made a whimsical decision one Sunday afternoon. We brought a beautiful , 8-week old, hairy blonde Labrador home (Winnie) and our lives were forever changed. Chloe’s bones and sense of peace would be forever in jeopardy. Our weekends became consumed with trips to PetSmart, walks around the block and playing ball in the backyard. Winnie and Chloe became fast friends, teaming up to destroy every stuffed animal that makes its way into our home. Food on the countertops and black clothing would never be safe in our house again.
The newest step in our relationship was the decision to build a new house in Kirkwood. Like a lot of things in life, sometimes even the best things happen out of order. Since moving in in November, we have been diligent in making our new house truly a home. With our two girls, we have created start of a wonderful family. The only thing missing was an engagement, which happened Christmas night at our house. Our upcoming wedding, which we are so happy to be able to share with each of you, will be the next step in this process of building our family and life together.
Special thanks to Kelly for the start of this journey, all of our many friends for helping us find our way and the most to our family for making us each who we are and what we hope to become together!!!
//When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something he/she did?, etc.
Kristen- I don’t know if there was one specific moment, more like a multitude of events but I do remember the first time I met his family and I thought to myself that he and his family were just what I was looking for to mesh with me and my family!
Brad-Our first year together was a whirlwind of trips together. Each one drew us closer. I’m not sure if there was a significant moment, rather all of her, her family and her friends added together to make a perfect package.
//Tell us about the proposal. (Did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning?, how did you feel? nervous, excited, freaking out?)
It was Christmas. All of our house-guests had just left. We finally had piece and quiet and KP had some extra special Xmas gifts to open.
//Tell is the one thing you love most about each other.
Brad-Thoughtfulness. The way that she bends over backwards to make her friends happy.
Kristen-I love that he is one of the most thoughtful, caring, genuine, and just overall amazing people that I know! He makes me laugh and lets me be me and still loves me!
//If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does.
Well we are both perfect…Haha, just kidding!
//Besides getting married – whats the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?
Quality time with friends and family.
